About Bentota
Bentota is the closest proper resort beach to Colombo, which is why it fills with families and couples who want sand without a long drive. The Bentota river runs into the sea here, so you get both a calm lagoon and an open beach in the same place.
The river side is where the activity is — jet skis, banana boats and mangrove trips. Several turtle hatcheries sit along this stretch of coast, and a few are genuine conservation projects rather than photo opportunities. Ask us which.
