Kandy

The hill capital and the sacred Temple of the Tooth beside the lake.

About Kandy

The last kingdom of Sri Lanka to fall to colonial rule, Kandy still feels like the cultural heart of the country. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic sits on the lake in the middle of town, and the hills around it are thick with tea and spice.

It's cooler here than the coast and makes a natural base between Colombo and the Cultural Triangle. Most guests give it two nights.

Getting to Kandy

A steady climb inland from the airport or Colombo, with spice gardens and the Pinnawala elephant orphanage on the way. Roads narrow as you climb, so most guests take a car or 7-seater van.

Taxi transfers to and from Kandy

Fixed-price private transfers, quoted per trip. Tap a route for details.
